Pros and Cons of a Free Blog (Blogspot Blogging)
Blogspot (Blogger.com) is google’s own blogging platform. With just one google account, you can create your free blog through blogger.com, with your own blogspot subdomain, i.e. www.yourname.blogspot.com.
How to Create a FREE Blogspot Blog
- Go to www.blogger.com/start
- Using your Gmail Account, log in and you will be prompted to “Create a Blog”
- Follow the steps, customize your blog by choosing the available templates, and you are ready to post.
Pros/Benefits of a Free Blogspot Blog
- Free - no monthly fees, no domain name payments, no hassle
- Your blog is under the google network, which means they have extra special blog moneytization features like automatically setting up your ads (through adsense) using the layout features (select “add a gadget” or “add a page element”, look for the “add Adsense” link). You will have to apply for your own adsense account, and get approved first.
- Point and click, Drag and drop customization - The layout page is easy to customize. You can add your own photos on the header and sidebars just by clicking a few links and buttons.
Cons/Disadvantages of a Free Blogspot Blog
- Some advertisers from Sponsored Reviews and BuyBlogReviews would rather have their links on blogs with unique domain names like www.yourname.com (unless of course, your blog is as popular as that of Akid’s)
- Categories are not as delineated in free blogspot blogs compared to those in Self-Hosted Wordpress blogs with custom domain names. But there’s a way for blogspot blogs to have “categories”, and this is by using the tags. Only, if you have gazillion tags in one post, they will all show on your sidebar.
- Sooner or later you will want to get hold of those luscious wordpress templates and plugins… and then you realize that transferring from blogspot free blog to a Self-Hosted Wordpress blog can be a hassle, particularly if you have hundreds of posts on your blogger blog, you want to keep all your contacts in your blogroll and your friends know you by your blogspot blog name already.
